The Woodlands Trust for Historic Preservation, working with the Woodlands Cemetery Company, is dedicated to the preservation and sustenance of the historic resources at The Woodlands. These include William Hamilton's elegant 18th-century neoclassical mansion, its landscape and outbuildings, and the picturesque, rural cemetery that has recast the site since the mid-19th century-all integral elements that achieved for The Woodlands the high recognition of Federal designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1968.
Over the last two decades, the Trust has raised funds and organized projects and programs to stabilize the site and present it to the public. Such projects have included the restoration of the monumental riverside portico overlooking the Schuylkill; the installation of a wheelchair lift, ramp and other measures to provide greater accessibility for the disabled; a new fire detection and security system; and a climate-control system for the building's public areas. The site has been studied as the subject of a Historic Structures Report, as well as of extensive documentation by the Historic American Buildings Survey and the Historic American Landscape Survey.
There is still much to do, and the Woodlands Trust for Historic Preservation welcomes your interest and support.
